12th Rabi Al Awwal

The significance of this date marks the birth of the Prophet صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّم, and the sholars of Islam have unanomously agreed that he was born on a Monday. According to the famous Seerah Sealed Nectar (الرحيق المختوم) by Safiur Rahman Mubarakpuri and other reliable sources of the life of the Prophet صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّم , the Prophet environment was already prepared for the arrival of the Prophet. Preparation by Allah's will were:

  • the Story of the Elephants where outsiders tried to take over Mecca,

  • the rediscovery of the ZamZam by Abd al-Muttalib and his relationship with the Prophet,

  • the trade route and trade capital of Mecca and,

  • the respect and character of the Quraish in relation to Allah and people.

There is no evidence to celebrate this day, but it is well known that the Prophet used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays

Narrated Usamah ibn Zayd:

The client of Usamah ibn Zayd said that he went along with Usamah to Wadi al-Qura in pursuit of his camels. He would fast on Monday and Thursday. His client said to him: Why do you fast on Monday and Thursday, while you are an old man? He said: The Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) used to fast on Monday and Thursday. When he was asked about it, he said: The works of the servants (of Allah) are presented (to Allah) on Monday and Thursday.

Sunan Abi Dawud 2436 - Sheikh Al Banai classed it as Sahih

Yasir Qadi a well known American Pakistani Islamic Scholar of our modern times have mentioned even though we shouldn't be celebrating his birthday one of the best acts to venerate your love to the Prophet is to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. The supporting evidence is where Allah says:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

Say, (O Prophet) “If you (sincerely) love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” 3:31

The Prophet forbade us Muslims from imitating the Jews and Christians in their acts, and this includes birthdays in his general statement:

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:

The Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّم) said, "You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a mastigure, you would follow them." We said, "O Allah's Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّم)! (Do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?" He said, "Whom else?"

Sahih al-Bukhari 7320

We ask Allah to guide us to what is correct and we increase our love for the Prophet صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّم , certainly Allah is All Knowing and to him belongs all knowledge. Ameen
