Night of Qadr
Layltul Qadr is a night that occurs only one night in the last 10 nights of Ramadhan, Allah says in the Qur'an:
1.Indeed, We sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down during the Night of Decree. 2.And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? 3.The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. 4.The angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.1 5.Peace it is until the emergence of dawn. (97: 1-5)
Allah says that it is equivalent to a 1000 months, herein deeds are multiplied to that of a 1000 months or roughly 83 years. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) used to worship Allah with more effort during the last ten nights, even to the point of tightening his waist belt and praying Qiyamul Layl in the middle or last portion of the night.
Narrated Aisha:
With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers. Bukhari 2024.
The generations of many millennia and centuries ago people used to live longer than we do, Prophet Musa (عليه ٱلسلام) lived up to 950 years reported by Ibn Tafsir or 1050 years reported from 'Ibn Abbas. Either way, the amount of deeds we can achieve in our lifetime compared to those before us is no comparison, and so Allah has made a concession to allow us to worship him with tremendous reward (83 years).
Laytul Qadr is also a night which is also known as Night of Decree, it is where the deeds of people is set for the whole year -
3.Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 4.Therein [i.e., on that night] is made distinct every precise matter - 5.[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] (44: 3-4)
the deeds is set for the whole year is the opinion of 'Ibn Katheer in his tafsir of the mentioned verses.
We should strive to achieve more good deeds in the last nights of Ramadhan and these can be a range of good actions, prayer, reading Qur'an, giving in charity, helping the needy, being good to family and the like.
May Allah help us to reach the Night of Qadr and do many good actions in that night. Ameen
